The R2 Nord Train Line from El Prat Airport
The R2 Nord Line connects Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN) directly to the city of Barcelona. With a frequency of approximately every 30 minutes, the suburban RENFE train reaches the metropolitan area in about 20–25 minutes.
The line departs from Aeroport Train Station (located at Terminal 2) and continues towards Maçanet-Massanes, passing through major stations such as Barcelona-Sants and Passeig de Gràcia.
The R2 network is divided into three sublines:
- R2 Nord – the only line serving Barcelona Airport directly
- R2
- R2 Sud
The R2 and R2 Sud lines do not stop at the airport. Passengers traveling on those lines must change to R2 Nord at stations such as El Prat, Bellvitge, Barcelona-Sants, or Passeig de Gràcia.
In the near future, Barcelona Airport’s rail connectivity is expected to improve further with the addition of a new AVE high-speed train and upgraded commuter rail services.
R2 Nord Timetable from BCN Airport
The R2 Nord departs every 30 minutes from Aeroport Station. The first train leaves at 05:42 am, while the last departure is scheduled at 11:38 pm.
Our Tip: Although the service is generally reliable, minor delays may occur, especially during peak hours.
Barcelona Airport Train Station Location
The airport train station is located approximately 200 meters outside Terminal 2. Terminal 2 and the station are connected via a covered pedestrian bridge equipped with escalators and elevators, making it fully accessible for passengers with luggage or reduced mobility.
The walking time from baggage claim at T2 to the train platforms is about 5 minutes, with clear airport signage guiding passengers along the way.
If you land at Terminal 1, you must use the free airport shuttle bus to reach Terminal 2. The shuttle:
- Runs every 6–11 minutes
- Operates 24/7
- Takes approximately 10 minutes
Shuttle buses are green, stop directly outside T1, and at T2 underneath the pedestrian bridge.

Which Train Station Should You Get Off At?
Although the R2 Nord line has 21 stops, none of them are located exactly in the historic city center. The most convenient stations for visitors are:
- Barcelona-Sants: The city’s main railway hub. Ideal if you are heading to Plaça Espanya, Montjuïc, or continuing your journey to other Spanish cities.
- Passeig de Gràcia: Best option for central Barcelona and the Eixample district. Excellent connections with multiple metro lines.
- El Clot-Aragó: Serves Poblenou and Clot areas and provides access to the northern part of Eixample.
